Hesters Cottage

"The property is situated within the Conservation Area and as such special planning consideration was given to the impact on the existing building."

The Brief
Hesters Cottage started life as a terrace of three cottages, which over time had been converted to provide a single dwelling. The property enjoys spectacular views of the Chiltern Hills. The brief was to provide a two-storey extension to provide an extra lounge and a library area, which would optimise the views.

Project Challenges
The property is situated within the Conservation Area and as such special planning consideration was given to the impact on the existing building.

Our Work
It was important that the proposed extension did not reduce the amount of lighting to the centre of the existing building. To this end, it was decided to use an oak and glass structure which allowed the existing building to be opened up and remodelled. The glazed areas to the elevations were designed to reflect the surrounding trees and vegetation. The library was provided on a mezzanine area above the new lounge and the existing garden was landscaped as part of the project.

The Outcome
We have subsequently been engaged by the new owners to design a new front porch and hallway remodel.
